Introduction.....
I had two unused sprue of plastic Uruk-Hai models lying around spare. I built 10 of the models straight off of the sprue 'as is', and so I decided to modify the 10 remaining models to add some variety of poses.
As I had the two sprues of Uruk-Hai models, I did two conversions on each of the models shown in this article.
To build these conversions, you will need the following
items:-
Sprue, (or more sprues if you have them), of plastic Uruk-Hai models, Model snippers, Craft knife, Files, Polystyrene glue or similar. You will also need two warrior of Rohan models, (the models I used are the ones running holding spears in their right hand).
These are the Uruk-Hai models that I used for the conversions. I have numbered the models from 1- 5 for ease of reference, please refer to the pictures of the models when following the steps below.

You will need to remove or cut some of the parts off of the Uruk-Hai models. Make sure that you cut all of the parts carefully with your craft knife and save them, as you will need these parts later on.
Stage 1…
Remove all of the models from the sprue with your craft knife or model snippers. Clean up any flash or mold lines on the models, now glue the models onto their Slotta Bases.
Stage 2…
Model 1... Cut off the right arm, just above elbow joint, save this arm for the alterations you will make to model 2.
Model 2... Cut off the right arm, just above the elbow joint. Glue the remaining upper arm/shoulder part onto the model as normal.
Model 3... Cut off the hand at the wrist joint. Do not attach the left arm with shield to this model.
Model 4...Cut the shoulder/upper arm carefully from this model, as you are going to attach a complete arm with shield from another model. Cut the pike away completely from the left arm, and also from the right hand, you will not need the remaining parts of this pike.
Model 5... Cut the right hand from the bottom of the pike, you will need this pike later, so be careful only to remove the hand.
Stage 3…
I have described the alterations to the Uruk models in the order shown below, this is because you will need to cut and modify some of the spare parts to free up other bits for some of the other modifications.
Take Uruk Model 4 and attach a complete arm with shield to the model, you now need to cut a sword/hand from one of the spare sword arms and attach this to the models wrist. I like this conversion, to me it is the best one. I feel the Uruk-Hai warrior now looks more mean and menacing in this position.

Take Uruk Model 5 and attach the pike arm to this model, but slightly alter the position you attach the arm at the elbow joint, so that you have now raised the position of the pike, you can glue the bottom of the pike to the models leg to give added support. You now need to cut another sword from one of the spare sword arms and attach this to the models wrist.

Take Uruk Model 2 and now attach the remaining arm with sword, (which you cut from model 1), to the elbow joint. The sword arm from model 1 is already in a raised position, so you only need to glue the arm to the model at the elbow joint. The sword is now raised pointing upwards, instead of to the side on the normal model.

Take Uruk Model 3 and attach the shoulder piece that you cut from model 4 to the model. Now glue the remaining pike arm, (this should not have the pike attached), and position the arm slightly inwards. Glue on one of the two spare right hands you cut from the pikes. This model is now suitable as an Uruk Engineer, to be used with the battering ram model, siege ladders or any other siege equipment that you may have.

Take Uruk Model 1, attach the last remaining right arm part to the elbow joint, and glue the right hand to the wrist, (you should have one right hand left from the unused pike, and you should also have one right arm left you cut from model 2). This arm should now stick straight out from the model. Cut off the head from a Warrior of Rohan model and glue this to the underside of the Uruks hand.

As an alternative to having the Warriors of Rohan head attached directly to the Uruks hand, try this version instead.
Cut the Warrior of Rohans hand complete with spear at the wrist from the model. Now glue the complete hand with spear to the Uruks wrist joint. Cut off the Warrior of Rohans head and attach it to the tip of the spear. You would be advised to drill out a small hole in the WOR head, and cut the tip of the spear off, which will make for a much stronger bond.

Now you have some different Uruk-Hai variations for your army. The modifications to the models are quick and very simple conversions that anybody at any skill level can attempt.
So why not give them a go, or try out some other conversions of your own.
