| H G Wells' War of the Worlds. |
| The Fighting Machine. |
| I
constructed this diorama in 1995. The Fighting Machine is a 1/100th scale mixed media kit comprising parts made
from resin, white metal, plastic and aluminum tubing. To finish
the effect of the diorama, 15mm scale buildings and scenic accessories were
used. The 'heat ray' effect was created by lacquering cotton
wool on a brass rod core, then carefully painting with greens and yellows.
This particular War Machine kit was available to purchase through Comet Miniatures during the 1990s, the kit was deleted sometime around the mid 1990s. However, Comet Miniatures are now stocking an updated and retooled version of the Martian War Machine kit, visit Comets web site for more details and prices. “Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of the War of the Worlds ©. | The Collecting Machine. |

| This
diorama was also constructed in 1995. The
Collecting Machine is a 1/100th scale mixed media kit comprising
parts made from resin, white metal, plastic and aluminum tubing.
To finish
the effect of the diorama, 15mm scale buildings and scenic accessories were
used.
The Collecting Machine kit was available to purchase through Comet Miniatures during the early to mid 1990s, however the kit was deleted in the mid 1990s, and as far as I am aware it has never been available since. “Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of the War of the Worlds ©. | On the road to London. |
| I
constructed this diorama in 1996. This diorama depicts the Martian
machines being attacked by the army using a battery of cannons. Both
the original War Machine kit and the Collecting Machine kit were used in this diorama.
Commercially
available 15mm scale period Artillery pieces, Limbers, figures and scenic accessories were used to
complete this
diorama.
The War Machine kit used in this diorama was available to purchase through Comet Miniatures during the 1990s, the kit was deleted sometime around the mid 1990s. | War of the Worlds, George Pal version. |
| 'Manta Ray' War machines. |
| Manta
Ray version of the War Machines. This
diorama was also constructed in 1996, using 1/300th scale resin &
white metal kits. The Manta Ray kits were available to purchase through Comet
Miniatures during the 1990s, as to their current availability, you
would need to check with Comet Miniatures.
This diorama features a selection of AFVs, (armoured fighting vehicles), equipment, troops and trees all in 1/300th scale. I replaced the neck of the "cobra head" with stronger metal tubing as I needed to support the War Machine off the ground by means of the firing ray, which was then painted in fluorescent orange. The glow that appears round the objects touched by the ray, was achieved by happy accident, the film stock I used to photograph the diorama picked up on this, and was not apparent until the photograph's were viewed.
