Woodland Outpost.
Trees with woodland path.
I made the trees by twisting together several strands of an armoured electrical wire, a thick layer of 'Fimo' modeling putty was applied onto the wire to create the trunk of the tree. The 'Fimo' bark was textured with a sculpting tool, then baked in the oven as per pack instructions for 1/2 an hour to fully cure the putty.
The trees were then attached to a suitable base and the roots were blended into the ground using Milliput modeling putty. The trees were painted with a dark brown acrylic paint and drybrushed with lighter shades of brown, with a green/brown mix drybrushed onto the lower parts of the tree to represent moss on the bark.
PVA was applied to the base and covered in fine sand, when this was dry it was painted and drybrushed to represent the forest floor, a little static grass was applied to finish off the base.
The foliage was added to the trees as the final touch, I used Woodland Scenics Clump Foliage glued on with Woodland Scenics Hob-E-Tac adhesive. The whole lot was then given a light coat of Lacquer to protect it.
The two large Guard Flets and the Bridge on the Woodland Outpost were made from Balsa wood cut to the desired size and shape, with matchstick 'spars' added for support and to brace the balsa for strength. The four small Guard Flets are plastic and were made using Games Workshop's large cavalry bases.
